The season of outdoor music festivals, summer holidays, weddings, and dinner parties is upon us. With hair accessories making an appearance everywhere from Coachella to the catwalk it’s the perfect time to begin experimenting with this fun, summer trend. But knowing how to style a jeweled hair band for a formal occasion or effortlessly pull off a beaded hairpiece at a festival can be difficult. So in this tutorial I am going to show you how to style hair accessories the right way for any occasion your summer diary might host!

Look One:

Alice knackfuss playsuit from S*uce Boutique, Lady bug cuff from S*uce Boutique. Zara flats and Dauphines of NY band

Look Two:

Carven dress from S*uce boutique, Banana Republic heels, Dauphines of NY band

Look Three:

Sass & Bide dress from S*uce boutique, Jimmy Choo heels, and Aura headpiece

Daytime:

Look 1 – Loose Waves

I definitely know the value of smooth, shiny locks but when it comes to summer there’s something to be said for having fun with texture! For daytime, boho-chic, I like to keep it relaxed and with tousled waves that let my hair accessory do the talking!

Tip: For the ultimate festival hair I recommend combining a clipless curling wand like my eROD Curler with a good sea salt texturizing spray to complete the style.

Look 2 – A Casual Braided Updo

Whether it’s your second day at a festival or you’re looking for something a little more chic than boho, I find these loosely pinned, undone braids are the perfect ethereal style. You can also wear this style if you’re attending a beach wedding and need an elegant yet whimsical finishing touch to your look.

Tip: For second-day festival hair I embrace the texture I created for Look 1 and work with it to create this loose updo. To strike the perfect balance between ‘elegantly undone’ and messy, use your Tail Comb to tuck under any stray pieces of hair.

Nighttime:

Look 3 – A Simple, Elegant Updo

Weddings and parties alike, when it comes to an evening event a simple style can be oh-so-effective when paired with a statement piece of hair jewelry. For this look I opted for a basic ballerina bun to really show off the detail in my hair piece. If, like me, you have a natural wave to your hair, it’s worth spending the extra time straightening your hair before creating a sleek updo like this. I use my DiamonSilk Flat Iron to ensure my hair is totally smooth. The diamond-coated plates give my hair a real shine and protect it from any damage! To tame flyaways I spritz a little hairspray onto my anti-frizz, Evolution Brush before securing in my bun.

Tip: Keep your hair accessory in place with some cleverly disguised bobby pins and hairspray. If you have a hair accessory that you love but find that it tends to move out of place, mist your hair with medium hold hairspray 10 minutes before you place it for extra grip.

This week, we have Indre Rockefeller, Former Director of Designer Ready-to-wear at Moda Operandi and now US director at Delpozo sharing her beauty routine with myfashdiary. Indre shares her favorite juicery in NYC and how she keeps fit by doing barre.

-My Beauty Routine

I try to: get a good night’s sleep, moisturize, laugh a lot, drink plenty of water, exfoliate 3x a week, and always wash my face before going to sleep.

skinceuticals-physical-fusion-uv-defense-sunscreen

-Beauty products you swear by

Giorgio Armani Maestro foundation for every day and every occasion. It builds easily for additional coverage and is feather-light for days when I don’t need as much.  Sunday Riley Juno Transformative Lipid Serum is a fantastic dry oil that I use when my skin is dry or stressed. SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense Sunscreen is weightless and adds just a touch of color, and Cle de peau concealer.

clede

-What’s in my make up bag

At the moment it contains: Cle de Peau concealer (which is another product I swear by), Givenchy Rouge Interdit lipstick in Tempting Coral, and Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Medium.

-Vitamin supplements

I take a vitamin D supplement during New York City winters and copious amounts of vitamin C when I’m traveling.

liquiteria

-Perfect detox juice mix

While I don’t do juice cleanses, I love grabbing a juice from Liquiteria in New York City’s East village. I love the Killer xx when I’m feeling a cold coming on and All Greens with Apple, Lemon, and Ginger when I need a healthy snack on the go.

-Favorite healthy dish

My favorite healthy snack is an avocado with olive oil, lemon juice and a pinch of salt. I’ll take an avocado on just about anything.

-Facialist/Dermatologist

Christine Chin when I need a thorough cleaning. After seeing her for a facial I usually have to set aside a day or two of hibernation before I’m ready to face the world again but she doesn’t miss a thing.

balletbeautiful

-Fitness routine

I love Ballet Beautiful classes. I used to be a professional ballet dancer so the physicality of it comes naturally. I wish I could do it every day, but we actually had Ballet Beautiful classes at the Moda Operandi offices twice a week!

-Skin/Body treatments you love

Nothing makes me feel better than a great massage. As a professional ballet dancer I grew up having a very practical relationship with massages, which were far from relaxing.  Since leaving ballet I have grown to appreciate the benefits of a relaxing hour on the massage table.

drybar

-Hair Miracle

Dry shampoo! I love Drybar’s Detox Dry Shampoo to prolong a blow out and add volume to my hair.

-Key to feeling beautiful? Feeling inspired and motivated.  When I’m invigorated by my surroundings, there’s always energy left over to tackle more.

The Essential Make up brushes you need.

Personally, a good make up brush is as important as good make up. The make up brushes I usually use are MAC, make up for ever, sephora and techniques. I recently attended a brush house with make up for ever at Al Qasr hotel to educate us on the 76 new brushes they’ve launched – all synthetic, without any animal fur. They are all within different categories – Face, eyes, lips and Artistic. They educated us on the ones our own make up routines need, as well as others that are more for pro use. Something interesting that I learnt that day (because you should never stop learning…) what the difference between the types of fibres as some are listed as straight, wavy or straight wavy. The different fibres mean different results. The straight fibre brushes take more product on the brush and give better coverage where as the wavy fibre brushes take less product, are more for a powder application and give off a medium coverage. PS on the other end of the brushes, the wood can be used as make up tools to apply product. Genius.

They also just launched a fab new brush cleaner to add to your make up shopping list… Make up For Ever’s Instant Brush Cleaner which is a light oil, needs no rinsing and dries super quick – best for daily cleanse rather than a weekly full shampoo cleanse.

My 10 favorites brushes…

1) 410 straight – For a full face coverage and perfect for the Make up for ever Face & Body foundation.

2) 414 wavy – For bronzers and shimmers before a night out.

3) 228 straight – Eyeshadow brush, for the base colour

4) 242 wavy – blending eyeshadow brush

5) 304 straight – lip brush for a natural colour rather than darks

6) 260 straight – perfect cat liner brush

7) 108 straight – a good foundation brush

8) 144 – airbrush concealer brush

9) 148 – for highlighters

10) 152 – a blush brush, for cream and powder.

This week, I spoke to Ruth Zukerman who owns Flywheel Sports globally (we finally have it in Dubai too!). As an ambassador for Flywheel Dubai, I was intrigued to find out more about her beauty and fitness routine – of course she’s a regular wheel and barre gal.

-Beauty products I swear by

My Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is my secret weapon toward having “perfect skin”.  It’s so natural looking and keeps me looking young!  I’ve also been using my Elizabeth Arden 8-hour cream on my lips before sleep for over 30 years.  It keeps my lips moist and supple for a true 8 hours and avoids any morning dryness.

-What’s in my make up bag

My Armani foundation, mentioned above.  Armani, Eyes to Kill mascara which takes away any need for fake lashes.  It’s literally magic.  A set of tweezers.  Armani Lipstick # 102 with Armani Lip Liner # 10 which gives my lips w very natural look with a hint of pink and it works with everything that I wear.  I also have MAC eye kohl crayon/liner in “Teddy” which is a soft brown.  Lastly I use an eye defining pencil, also from Armani with its own brush on the other end.

-Vitamin supplements

I take a daily Centrum multi-vitamin as well as a Calcium supplement with Vitamin D added.

-Perfect detox juice mix

I don’t believe in de-toxing.  I’m afraid that it is a myth.

-Favorite healthy dish

A piece of grilled salmon with spinach and a salad with greens, tomatoes, cukes and avocados which are a part of my daily diet.

-Facialist/Dermatologist

I have managed to avoid any dermatalogical work at this point and am proud of it!

-Fitness routine

Flywheel indoor cycling 5 days per week as well as Flybarre twice a week.  They are the perfect complements to each other and offer everything my body needs to stay strong and in shape.

-Skin/Body treatments

I always enjoy a good body salt scrub to exfoliate and polish the skin, leaving me glowing!

-Hair Miracle

My electric rollers are my hair miracle.  I put them in for just a few minutes before I go out and my hair looks as if it was professionally done!

-Signature fragrance

Motu by Comptoir Sud Pacifique.  I don’t go anywhere without it and am pretty well known for my scent!

DAMAC-Maison-Pool_ExteriorBurjViewGet pampered with a loved one… at Chrysalis spa @ DAMAC Maison

There’s obviously nothing better than relieving stress than getting pampered at the spa. However, there’s no better feeling than doing it than getting pampered with a loved one. I recently tried a massage at Chrysalis Spa @ DAMAC Maison, which is on the Dubai Mall street (hotel apartments) for a 90 minute massage with a friend. We went for the signature, Chrysalis massage – which is a candle wax massage rather than your typical oil one. As soon as we arrived, we were given a choice from 4 different scents – went for the sensual, which was more fragrant being used to the herbal oil smells. The suite had a massage room with two beds and a main room for the foot ritual, which ad a floating pool. The 90 minute massage consisted of having the candle melted and applied onto the body as a massage oil with their specific technique using different ones depending on the pressure for that specific area. Soothing, as well as the hot candle wax melting tense muscles and leaving the skin nourished as it comes on like butter. Perfect gift for that special someone…

spaces-1Instead of your typical mani/pedi, go for …A Rose manicure & pedicure at Spaces Salon, Oasis Mall

Every now and then, I like going for a mani/pedi add on for a change. Less than a year ago, I tried the Chocolate mani pedi at Spaces Salon in Oasis Mall. For the Summer season, they launched a rose spa mani pedi that I booked in for. I’m not the biggest Rose scent fan, but this was super lovely – sweet, subtle and fresh. After being taken to my station, I was served a lovely Rose drink (for the full experience, I was told.) The Salon have nail polish from Essie & LCN and started the treatment with prepping the skin with a soak, and a salt glow mineral mask (this contains aloe vera, Vitamin A & E) which helps remove the dead skin cells as well as the oil residue keeping the skin hydrated. After the filing, and cuticle work (they were hydrated with a rick Apricot cuticle oil), a cream mask was applied (which contains cocoa and shea butter and sesame oil to help moisturise dry and soften skin) The treatment ended with a massage with the Rose hand and body lotion, which includes mineral and jojoba oils that heals, rejuvenates, and nourish the skin. Not only does it smell beautiful, the exfoliating treatment really made my hands and feet super soft and I was ready to go for the Summer!

Cost of the mani is AED130 and the pedi costs AED150

rebeccatreston

Get an instant glow… with a Mandelic Acid peel at Rebecca Treston @ EUROMED

I never really get peels, because I stay away from anything that has down time but I recently tried a Mandelic Acid peel with Rebecca Treston at Euromed. A super mild peel (similar to Glycolic and lactic acid peels, but more gentle), takes a matter of seconds without any down time. I like to get it down after a spectra treatment. Rebecca applies it on the skin for a few seconds before quickly neutralising it, removing it and applying a cooling mask. It gives the skin an instant glow, whilst evening it out and repairing damaged skin. Highly recommended!

lashperm

Curl your lashes… with a lash perm @ Sisters beauty lounge

The reason I love mascara is the curl you get with some definition and colour. I never knew you can actually book in for an eyelash perm to semi permanently curl your lashes – perfect for the summer when you don’t want to be wearing much make up. I recently tried the eyelash perm at Sisters beauty lounge in Dubai Mall. After being taken to the coffee bar, I was greeted by Sheila, my beautician into a private dedicated room where I got to lay down on their comfortable beauty beds. The eyelash perm chemicals are very similar to the ones used on the hair except with a lot more similar so I was slightly sceptical in the beginning. The total treatment time was an hour and involved two gel sittings that slightly burnt my lids, but Sheila made sure to be vocal in order to know when to wipe the treatment off. Personally, I loved the effect of the lashes – as if they were curled very well but one I’d have for weeks. My only pointer is the fact that make your lashes appear shorter especially if you have straight lashes generally so I went on for lash extensions a few days later.

Cost: AED335

HAIR TUTORIAL: How to get Beach Waves.

DSCF3584 beachwaves1 beachwaves3 beachwaves2 beachwaves4

With the Summer right here, I’m showing you how to get the hair you get after a day at the beach – The combination of sun, sea, sand, and salty air creates an unparalleled texture. Beachy waves are one of my go-to daytime looks for summer and they can easily be recreated at home using a flat iron and some carefully selected styling products.  It might seem odd that I work with a flat iron rather than a curler but I love the natural tousled effect that I get with my DiamonSilk flat iron by Eideal! Enjoy.

I’m wearing a Maxi dress by Somedays Lovin (AED405) from West LA Boutique with a gorgeous brown smokey eye.

What you will need:

eionic Hairdryer

Evolution Brush

DiamonSilk Flat Iron

Kevin Murphy Volumizing Mousse

Spray Bottle

Morrocan Oil Medium Hold Hairspray

Sachajuan sea salt spray

Step 1: A Big Blowout

Beach waves look better with a bit of extra bounce so I start by blow drying my hair using my eionic hairdryer and my Evolution Brush paired with some volumizing mousse!

Tip: For added texture you can also spritz some sea salt spray onto towel dried hair before you blow dry.

Step 2: Clamp and Twist

Now that my hair has completely cooled down it’s time to create some waves! After applying my heat protection spray, I set my DiamonSilk flat iron to a medium heat. This avoids creating indents in my hair with excess heat.

This look isn’t supposed to be too precise so I work with different-sized, random portions of my hair to ensure my waves don’t look too ‘uniform’. I start at the top and clamp and rotate the flat iron 180° whilst holding out the ends in the opposite direction. The secret to successful waves is in the movement! The idea is to clamp the iron on the hair and then turn it over. Twist the iron slowly, but fast enough so ensure that the hair doesn’t crease. When I take the iron away I can see my first wave!

Step 3: Reverse It

Next, I repeat the same action again but this time curving my hair in the opposite direction

Step 4: Hold it Taut

I continue this pattern down the length of my hair. In picture 5 you can see how I use my hand to keep the hair taught, this ensures that the wave above will not fall out of shape! As I work my way around my head I keep checking the shape of my hair to ensure the pattern looks natural. I continue the wave pattern down to the ends.

Tip: If you hold your iron in the same spot for too long you might create a nasty dent! To get your hair back in-shape, use your spray bottle to lightly mist the area and leave it to air dry before re-waving.

Step 5: Repeat It

I continue to wave the rest of my hair, once I’ve mastered the first few sections the whole process starts to become easier!

Tip: Don’t be tempted to spread out the waves with your fingers while your hair is still hot! Wait until the very end when your hair has cooled in the pattern you created.

Step 5: Set the Style

Now you have the texture you’ll want your waves to stay in place, so the last step is possibly the most important. Once I’m perfectly sure that my hair has cooled I use some medium hold hairspray to lock my hair into place. Now I have the perfect hair for days when a visit to the beach isn’t possible!

Askbobbi1 askbobbi2

I love apps – and have recently had to organise all my apps because of the ton that I download. I use them for everything from organisation, beauty, fitness, social media and the list goes on. I’m not the biggest fan of downloading brand apps because they always seem really commercial, so you might be confused about this next recommendation… Being a Bobbi fan, I decided to download the new ASK Bobbi app which is incredibly helpful if you’re a Bobbi Brown regular consumer (like myself) or a new one.

A few highlights I loved within the app:

-Keeps a log of your purchases (I use everything from the Art stick, foundation to the gel liner and tend to stock up for travels – this is a great way to have a log in one place.)

-Wishlist (They show Bobbi’s best sellers, and sometimes I come across a product that I want to try in the store, this is a great way to save all of those)

-How to Tutorials (The pictures and wording are very clear – they have tutorials for everything from how to get the smokey eye to how to apply a bronzer)

-Book a lesson (Not many people know this but everyone gets free quick make up classes in store with specific classes from how to get perfect skin to a cat liner) Use the app to find your nearest store in order to book.

Now, tell me… what’s your favourite app?

saloneducatorsHair Academy: Salon Educators, JLT

For all my readers that are budding hair stylists, this is for you. I recently got my hair done at Salon Educators at The Tiffany Tower in JLT – partly salon and partly hair academy (It takes 4 months for the first level, and 6 months for the second) – perfect because as soon as you’ve been educated and trained by the best, you get to test your skills on real clients. The other part of the concept is an actual salon so you can come in and get your hair done by the professional stylists there, whilst they educate you about your own hair along the way. I was booked in with Senior stylist, Kimberley for the full deal – cut, colour and styling. I ended up going for a little trim as I wanted to keep my long locks for the Summer, lightened my ombre – went for something a little cooler as Kimberley suggested as blonde dye eventually starts to look more brassy. I was super happy with my finish and was ready for the Summer. Whether you’d like a hair look or want to get into the hair industry, I definitely suggest you give Salon Educators a visit.

Car: Audi A5

If you’re looking for your next car, I recently drove the Audi A5 convertible in the most beautiful plum color for a weekend and must say, I fell in love with it. A two door car, a smooth ride with a luxurious feel – I didn’t get enough time to use the car but here are my thoughts:

+Smooth ride

+Music lowers when you’re close to something so you can focus.

+Beautiful, luxurious interiors.

+Navigation system

+Ilumination lights in deep amber during night time makes the car look super pretty from the inside.

-Quite long and large for a small two door car.

The Nail Spa

Nail Spa: The Nail Spa Lakes Club

For my readers living close to the Emirates Hills and Lakes area, One of my new favourite nail spas just opened in the Lakes Club – The Nail Spa. Chic looking like their other branches, quality service – they offer a full range of their treatments within 10 mani/pedi stations and space for massages and facials. For the mommies, it is conveniently located next to The Lakes Club! I suggest getting a mani/pedi with an added treat of Zone Therapy, which is a deep reflexology and pressure point healing massage.

Only pointer, I wish they had more variety of magazines….

Bridal 2014 - Group Shot

Brides: Essie Bridal collection 2014

For the brides that are getting ready for your weddings – I got ya sorted… for the nails at least. Essie, one of my favourite nail polish brands have just launched their bridal collection in the most subtle and sweet colours, and the most hilarious names. I recently tried the collection at Loft Fitfth Avenue, City Walk. They have the most beautiful sheer white, or a classic pastel pink or you can be a little quirky and go for something sweet yet slightly different with a gorgeous blue or Summer pastel orange.

Early Blow dries: Early bird @ JetSet

I always tend to struggle if I need my hair done for an early breakfast event or an early shoot so I’m excited to share this news piece. JetSet, one of my ultimate favourite salons in Dubai have just launched early blow-dries starting from 8 am at Emirates Towers – not only is it such a gem to not have to get your hair done late at night and sleep on it, but the fact that the salon is nice and quiet in the mornings so you can really enjoy your email reads and a cup of coffee whilst getting your hair blown out. I recently had an early shoot followed by the Chanel Cruise 2015 show… Thanks to JetSet, I was all sorted.

Blowdries start at AED105.

Rings: Caroline Creba

If there’s one accessory I wear on a daily basis, it’s rings. I’ve recently introduced UK based jewellery designer, Caroline Creba (who loves her gems!) to my accessories collection. My personal favourite is the Pettia collection – here’s a shot of a few of the rings. http://www.carolinecreba.com

dolcebeauty

Beauty: Dolce & Gabbana at Harvey Nichols, Dubai

I swear by Dolce & Gabbana beauty products! They just opened a section at Harvey Nichols, Mall of the Emirates. I had the opportunity to speak to Massimilliano Della Maggesa, Dolce & Gabbana make up artist who flew down from Milano and get my make up personally done by him. The artist is proud and loves working with such an iconic brand, “Dolce&Gabbana is lead by two wonderful designers. They live together, they still work together and they are alive.”

He spoke to me about his favorite products from the Matte foundation (that is perfect for the Middle East’s weather) to the Luminous foundation (a luxurious foundation that makes your face feel like ‘real skin’), the matte concealer, the matte blush (According to Massimilliano, they are the only company that make this) and of course their brand new mascara which he swears by for curled lashes. He said something really interesting that when applying make up, you need to ‘recognize yourself and not have make up as something that makes you different.’ But something worth getting excited about? Their brand new skincare range, which he mentions will give the same result as Creme de la Mer, if not better.

sukkardesserts

Cheesecakes: Sukar Desserts

I’m constantly on the look out for cake bakeries – Birthdays, occasions, and get togethers. I was recently introduced to Sukar House of Desserts, a boutique bakery in JLT. A local homegrown brand that specialise in cakes, cupcakes and baked goods. Their best sellers include Molten chocolate cake, Banoffee pie, and Red Velvet Chunks cheesecake. I recently tried the Knafe cheesecake – a perfect twist on the Middle Eastern dessert and Kitat cheesecake, a delicious chocolate treat. www.facebook.com/sukardesserts

Skin issue Solved – What do your spots say about you?

$
0
0

rebeccatrestonandtalasamman

Why do we get breakouts in different sections (Foreheads, chins, hairline) – what do different areas mean? How can we prevent and treat them? I asked my skincare guru, Rebecca Treston from Euromed…

One of the most common problems I treat at the clinic is adult acne. We fully expect to gets acne during adolescence, but unfortunately for many of us, spots continue to haunt us in our 20s, 30s and for some, even in middle age.

But did you know that where spots are located on your face and the type of spot you have, can give you an insight into what is going on in your body and help you discover what the root cause of the acne may be? And it follows that if you know the root cause, you can treat your acne more effectively.

Face mapping is part of the ancient art of Chinese Medicine, which believes that different parts of your face correspond to specific organs and body systems. The ancient art of face mapping can help you identify the cause of your blemishes by splitting the face into several sections such as forehead, chin and nose and understanding the different ‘zones’. The Chinese believed there were 14 zones and by treating each zone in isolation from the others, you could attain perfect skin.

Although many modern aestheticians and dermatologists are not Chinese Medicine practitioners, they all agree that there is a basis for the belief and that every part of your face does tell a story!

The Forehead: Breakouts across this area are usually down to high amounts of fat within your diet so it may be time to cut out the chocolate and cookies and cleanse your diet with antioxidant-rich green tea and up your water intake.

The Ears and Eyes: Spots close to your ear and even dark circles around the eyes can be caused by dehydration so keep well hydrated throughout the day by drinking, at least, eight glasses of water a day and avoiding coffee, tea and salt whenever possible.

Tip of your nose: This area is skin is full of dilated pores so make sure your make-up brushes and anything that you bring close to your face are kept clean.

Cheeks: If you’re a smoker you may find that you are more prone to acne along the tops of your cheeks. However, like most people, increasing your exposure to fresh air with long and regular walks can really help detoxify this area.

Lower part of the face: For many women, this zone is a key indicator of stress and hormonal imbalances particularly around a certain time of the month. While there is little to do that can prevent these changes, eating clean with plenty of exercise will optimise your glowing complexion.

Hair Gloss: Rita Hazan Ultimate Shine Gloss

I love buys from experts in their fields because you know they’ve tried everything in the industry. Since getting an ombre, my hair has been more high maintenance than anything else. Not only do I need to worry about making sure it’s constantly hydrated to not get straw like ends, I also need to make sure the colour is staying on top of it’s game. I’ve started using this product by top NYC Celebrity colorist, Rita Hazan. A light weight foam applied to the hair in the shower after shampooing and before the conditioner for a few minutes (I recommend you keep it for 5 mins, so don’t do it when you’re in a rush because you need the conditioner too!) Very light on the hair, the product has B5 vitamins and Amino acid to boost the colour as well as giving your hair a shine. You’re not going to see dramatic results, but it’s a great colour maintenance product in my opinion.

Leave in hair product: Alterna Caviar CC Cream

I rarely use leave in creams, but when I heard about a hair CC cream, I had to get my hands on it. If there’s one leave in cream product you’re going to get, this is it. Smells lovely, all you have to do is apply it on towel tried hair or post styling – it has 10 benefits from moisture, shine, smoothness, softness, UV protection, Manageability, Strength, Anti-breakage, heat protection to light hold all in one product. The list of benefits come from the ingredients such as the omega Caviar extract and vitamin C. Perfect to use through out the Summer.

Shampoo: LUSH Big Sea Salt shampoo

Being a person that loves her Kerastase, Oribe or Redken… it might be a shocker that this Lush shampoo is my favourite this month. It smells like the freshest thing I’ve ever smelt but the sea salt texture is quite intimidating as a shampoo. My hair is anything but fine so I can’t really tell you about it giving me ‘big’ hair, but I will say it definitely gave my hair a squeaky clean finish which is perfect if your scalp greases up quickly. I recommend this as a once a week shampoo in between your regular ones.

Dry Shampoo: L’Oreal Volumetry Powder Fresh

I’ve been using this L’oreal dry shampoo from their volumetry range which I love. This is the range if you’re looking for more volume on the roots. I like using the dry shampoo as not only does it blot any oil on the 2nd day of a blow dry, it also lifts up the hair and gives it some volume – it also has a clean, fresh scent to it!

Fragrance: Jo Malone Cologne Intense Tuberose Angelica

I must say this has got to be my favourite Jo Malone intense fragrance – possibly the fact that it has top notes of Tuberose and White floral. Comes in a luxe black bottle, this new floral fragrance from the brand is striking and deep – perfect for someone who loves Tuberose, white florals, ambers, woods or Angelica. I’ll definitely be packing this as a night fragrance for my Summer travels.

Night Fragrance: Tom Ford Velvet Orchid

Tom Ford’s fragrances are quite rich so I don’t always end up liking them on myself but I’m in love with his brand new fragrance – velvet orchid – where I was introduced to within a culinary journey at Celebrities, Royal Mirage which is the 2nd chapter of Black Orchid. Oriental floral, the feminine fragrance has notes of citrus, petals, honey and rum. Being a floral, jasmin and vanilla fan, this instantly drew me and each spritz adds a sense of richness and luxury.

Cleanser: Clarins Extra-comfort anti-pollution cleansing cream

Love Clarins skincare products, one of the best on the market. I’ve recently started using their brand new cleanser made out of Moringa, Mango and shea butter which is perfect with nourishing, moisturizing and softening but it also removes make up and impurities, as well as removes all the pollution that is drawn to our skin from the environment.

Oil cleanser: Ar457 Argan skin cleanser

Argan oil is one of those miracle ingredients. Not only can it be used on the hair and body – it can also be used on the skin. This oily cleanser by Ar457 is perfect if you need heavy moisturising, nourishing and radiance lifting. It also removes your make up and is a fab anti-ageing product.

Mask: Creme de la Mer Lifting and Firming mask

A pricy buy, but worth the investment. A skin food and treat – part serum, and part mask. Made out of Algae and active marine-plant stem cells, and packed with collagen and active ingredients – The luxurious mask is applied with a small brush that comes with the product and stays on the skin (rinse free) till the morning. Perfect for nourishing and firming the skin, as well as a youthful glow!

AED1,110

Skincare Range: Diptyque Skincare

I love Diptyque candles and perfumes, so I was super excited to hear about the launch of their first skincare collection which include botanical ingredients like rose, mimosa and Jasmine (my favourite!). One of my favourites would have to be the protective moisturising lotion, which feels very luxe and smells of Jasmines! The collection is available at Areej stores in the region.

Eye Cream: Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

I never really thought what an essential beauty product an eye cream would be till this month. A hydrated under eye really gives you a fresh face, as well as allows make up to come on smoothly. I’ve started using Kiehl’s Creamy Eye treatment with Avocado which is a lovely creamy texture (you only need very little product!). Really gives the skin a hydrated finish as well as doesn’t irritate the skin.

Spot treatment: Dermalogica Overnight clearing gel

Dermalogica is one of my favourite skincare products and being a person that is always on the lookout for good spot treatments (for those emergencies!), I had to try it out. Quite mild, clear, but doesn’t have any of those strong spot treatment smells (Quite good if you’re not sleeping alone!), it’s good if you’re having a bad skin day, to apply all over the skin and leave a stronger one for that one inflamed one. Another plus is the fact that it doesn’t dry up the skin (like other products that are high in Salicylic acid), but also has green tea extracts to help hydrate.

Foundation: Guerlain Terracota Joli Teint

A creamy lightweight foundation that gives a radiant finish. I’ve been wearing the natural shade. SPF 20 and works well with their best selling bronzer, the Terracota powder!

Liquid Foundation: Shisedo Radiant Lifting foundation

I’m always drawn to foundations that give a radiant and flawless finish & this liquid from Shisedo does that.  Anti Wrinkle, Anti-aging, it also has a light technology that gives the skin radiance, and has moisture which helps with the anti wrinkle effect. The foundation also has an SPF of 15.

Concealer: Lancome le Correcteur Pro concealer kit

If there are 5 make up products I swear by, one of them will have to be a great concealer. It can really wake you up if you look like you’ve slept under five hours, and it also makes any smokey eye look better (especially with a cream concealer, which is what this product is.) This palette is tiny, super handbag friendly and has 3 different applications – one to cover up and conceal, one to brighten and one to set – it also comes with a mini brush but I prefer to keep that only if I took it out on a night out – use your fingers or your dedicated concealer brush. It comes in around 8 shades, so do stop over a counter and try on before buying – the last thing you want is a concealer that is too dark or too light.

Blush: MAC Sheertone blush in Gingerly

I’m in love with this blush from MAC in Gingerly. If you’re a brunette with olive skin tone, you’re going to love it. It has a brown/peachy tone, I like applying over or instead of a bronzer. As it’s part of sheertone, it can easily be built up for a stronger pigment. Handbag friendly too!

Primer: Make up For Ever HD High Definition Primer

Make up for Ever’s high definition line is on a make up artists level, so you can count on the best products from that range. After introducing their fab foundation to my range, I’ve been using their High definition primer. Smells good, a micro perfecting primer, lightweight, oil-free and moisturising. The primer helps the foundation blend easier, last longer and adds some luminosity to the skin.

Bronzer: Bourjois Paris Delice de Poudre bronzing powder

Bourjois is one of those underrated beauty brands… The brand’s Delice de poudre is not only delicious (smells like chocolate), made out of the perfect bright bronze shade and super easy to throw in the bag. One of my star products for the month!

Eyeshadow palette: Make Up for Ever Arty Blossom

If you’re looking for a new eye shadow palette, I’ve been using the Art Blossom palette from Make up for Ever’s Spring ’14 collection. High pigments of beautiful shades from browns to brights. The size is super handy too – easy to carry and fits in any handbag!

Eyeliner: Max Factor Excess Intensity Longwear eyeliner

When looking for eyeliners to apply on the inside of my eyes, I always look for something incredibly black, easy to glide on and long lasting. This new eyeliner from Max Factor does that, and is perfect for a beauty over spender!

Lip & Cheek tint: YSL Baby Doll Lips & Cheeks Soft Matte colour in ’12′ Mocha Garconne

I’m in love with tints at the moment and recently been wearing a lot of the YSL Baby Doll Lips & Cheeks soft matte tints. For a gorgeous nude, I love the Mocha Garconne. All I do is apply a bit to the centre of the lips and just dab it through the rest of the lips for a lovely creamy yet matte colour on the lips. It has an air whipped texture, which feels lovely but once it dries up, it gives a sleek creamy matte finish. Haven’t used it a blush much, but you can also use it the same way as a blush.

Lipgloss: Clarins Gloss Prodige in ’11 Coral Tulip’

I tend to go for a bright or a nude when looking for lipstick. For a change, I’ve been wearing this light colour lipgloss – a subtle light flattering coral. Great texture, not sticky, and makes the lips look full (as it has some lip plumping ingredients!). The colour is a sheer and shiny coral that looks perfect with a tan.

Nude Lipstick: Bassam Fattouh lipstick in ‘Biscuit’

One of my favourite make up artists, Bassam Fattouh has a make up range that is so under rated – his products are truly amazing… This month, I’ve been using his nude lipstick from the Pin up collection called Biscuit. It gives a matte finish, yet still quite moisturising on the lips – I love the biscuit, caramel shade of nude that warms up your skin rather than washing it out.

Bright pink lips: Smashbox Be legendary lipstick in Pink Petal

There are two kinds of lipsticks I collect – nude ones and perfect bright pink ones. Finding the perfect one for those two is always a lot more difficult. I haven’t really found my favourite bright pink since MAC’s Impassioned. I’ve been using this shade from Smashbox that I love. Creamy, moisturising (it has shea butter) and filled with antioxidants to protect the lips – not to mention it’s in a fuchsia bright pink shade.

Perfect Red lipstick: Clinique Long last soft Matte lipstick in ‘Crimson’

I usually steer clear of matte lipsticks (even though I love the look) because I’m not a fan of the chalky feel, but I recently got my hands on Clinique’s brand new matte lipstick in ‘Crimson’ – long lasting, moisturising and can I say, one of the best red lipsticks I own…

Lipliner: NARS Satin Pencil in ‘Yu’

I’m so excited about NARS being stocked back in Dubai. It’s about time especially with such a large fan base in the city. Imagine a lipstick and lipliner in one – Rich, creamy, and long lasting filled with vitamins in the most gorgeous bright pink lips – obsessed.

Lip balm: Dior Addict Lip Glow

Personally, lip balms are a lot more important to me than lipsticks so I end up always making sure I have one in my handbag. I’ve been using this fab one by Dior called the Dior Addict Lip Glow – it has a lovely subtle Vanilla scent, the Mango butter hydrates the lips and it also has SPF 10 to protect the looks. The coolest thing of all? It has a colour reviver technology, which creates a unique shade depending on the chemistry of the lips.

Body Bronzer: Jane Iredale Tantasia Self Tanner & Bronzer

Even though this can also be used on the face, I use it on my legs and arms for a body bronzer top up. I generally like Jane Iredale products as they’re good for your skin so you don’t have to worry if you have skin sensitivity. As it gradually tops up, I don’t end up getting streaks as it builds up over time. Subtle with a natural glow – the moisturiser has a strong citrus smell, so if you like the citrus scent, you’re good to go!

Body Scrub: Soap & Glory ‘The Breakfast Scrub’

I love a delicious scrub. This one by Soap & Glory available at Boots is made out of Oat, banana, honey, almond, Shea butter and sugar. Makes your skin super soft, and smells so good. It has a maple breakfast porridge scent, smells so fresh and literally smells like your breakfast.

Available at Boots

Nails & Cuticles: Sephora Instant Nail & Cuticle care

Because of the weather and indoor air conditioning, our skins get dry whether we like it or not. We always tend to focus on moisturising the face and body – and forget everything else. In between manicures, I end up finding myself biting the skin around the nails which is not only horrible for the cuticles, it’s also quite painful. How many times do we end up buying a cuticle oil from our regular salon and not end up using it? I recently got my hands on this small tub by Sephora called Instant Nail & Cuticle care – made out of Camelia oil – which I keep on the desk to dip my fingers at least once a day (sometimes twice). All you have to do is dip your nail in and it instantly nourishes, strengthens and repairs. Highly recommend this!

This week, Myfashdiary.com speaks to one of the hottest jewelers of the moment, Sabine Ghanem of Sabine G. The designer talks about only one beauty product she swears by from Dr. Sebagh and why she doesn’t do facials.

Beauty products I swear by

Just one. I use Dr. Sebagh extreme moisturiser cream. It is the best skin product for dry skin.

-What’s in my make up bag

Armani foundation, Guerlain bronzer, Nars ‘orgasm’ blush, Chanel n12 lip liner and Yves Saint Laurent lip sticks are the best.

-Vitamin supplements

I take probiotics every morning and lots of vitamin C.

-Perfect detox juice mix

Ginger, Kale, celery, orange.

-Favorite healthy dish

I like to eat well. But not too diet. My most healthy dish would be grilled chicken and salad.

-Facialist/Dermatologist

I never do facials. The less I treat my skin the better it looks.

-Fitness routine

I don’t really have a routine. I try to walk as much as possible and I when I get a chance I go to spinning classes.

-Skin/Body treatments

I love moroccan scrubs. Specially quiet moment in the steam room before the treatment.

-Hair Miracle

You have to have a good base. I found that Leonor Greyl are really good hair products.

-Signature fragrance

Take Nail art to the next level… & try Ciate’s Flower Manicure at Sisters beauty lounge

I’m a sucker for nail art, so when I heard that Ciate were coming out with a ‘Flower manicure’ and Sisters beauty lounge will be doing it – I knew I had to book myself in. They have several branches around town, but I usually like going to their main flagship at Dubai Mall. It started with their Sisters traditional manicure – which is a no-water, Brazilian keratin manicure followed by the actual nail art. You have a choice on what base you’d like depending on the flowers (I went for Essie’s Lilacism – which is a gorgeous cream lilac shade), which is followed by a top coat then the flowers (which is made out of real dried flowers) is gently applied. This wouldn’t be something I’d do myself at home, as it requires a ton of work. The nails look gorgeous, eye catching and pieces of art. That being said, this is just an occasion manicure – as soon as I started washing my hands, the colour on the flowers turned into ink and hey slowly dissolved leaving my nails looking smudged. The cost of the manicure was AED75.

Marqueeblowdrybar

Experience a Blow dry bar… with Marquee’s Blow Dry Bar at The Lakes Club

I love Blow dry bars, and wish they had more of them in the city. It always feels very New York when I think of them. One of Dubai’s newest hair salons, Marquee (and one of my favourites – owned by the same people of The Nail Spa) have just opened their new branch at The Lakes Club, which is a blow dry bar. Keeping with their Glam retro feel, they have a hair menu with different style options with fun names like Audrey, Ava, Grace, Marilyn, and Sophia to name a few… I went for the ‘Drama’, which was loose waves with volume, the perfect romantic look that goes with everything if you have a mix of plans for the weekend. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by the lovely ladies at reception before meeting my lovely stylist, Theresa who moved from Essex to Dubai for Marquee. My hair was washed with Kevin Murphy products (one of my favourite hair care brands!) with a lovely massage. My hair was dried, before getting curled with a brush – I was incredibly happy with my loose curls and for a change lasted me for two days (I always need to get tight curls if I need them to last.) The curls just turned looser but still looked perfect the day after. My only pointer is bring your own magazines, due to the lack of variety (boo), but all in all – a fun blow dry experience, they do great hair and I highly recommend Theresa. My blow out cost AED130.

Willow Stream Spa

Get off the laptop and melt off tense shoulders… with a Stay Active Back Soother massage at Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont the Palm

If you’re someone that works on the computer for long hours, you find yourself with stiff shoulders all the time. That’s me. I work on the computer for long hours, whether I’m writing, on emails or doing admin work. Because of that, I end up having to book in for regular massages (not a bad thing… but yes, finding a good massage is crucial. So I regularly scour up the city for the best to share with all of you! You’re welcome.) I checked out the Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont the Palm (I love their pool, their Ba restaurant – so had to check out the hotel spa) and booked in for the Stay Active back soother massage. Nothing fancy about the spa, just clean and straight to the point – after all, it’s all about the service. First things first, I was impressed with their comfortable beds, felt like an actual bed. After being taken to the treatment room after changing in the changing rooms, my back was cleansed followed by a mud being applied to the back with a hot press (infared heat therapy) right over. I was fasting that day, so it wasn’t the most comfortable feeling as you literally sweat off the toxins, the heat eases up the muscles before the massage and the mud softens the skin. During that discomfort, you get a foot massage (which was lovely) followed by a back massage and ending with one on the shoulders & scalp using Indonesian Ginger oil.

Cost: AED455

TITO Gel Wear

Get Long-Lasting nails… with TITO gel wear at Tips & Toes

The ideal travel manicure… gel nails. Tips & Toes have just launched their new gel polish, TITO Gel Wear. They promise chip-free nails for 14 days as well as strength and shine.

So I put the treatment to test at my favourite branch – the huge salon in Al Barsha. Whenever I visit Tips & Toes, I always feel like I’m in Bali (even though I haven’t really been before…). When recommending a gel manicure, I need to check 4 things off my list – The actual manicure, the variety of colours, timeliness and the quality of the actual gel manicure. 1) Tips & Toes do give a great manicure, took care of my excess cuticles with the perfect shape… only wish they gave better/longer massages during the process! 2) I was happy with the variety of colours – I ended up going for a lovely subtle baby pink called ‘Iris’ and for feet, a pale denim blue called ‘Blue Denim’. 3) Timewise, it wasn’t the quickest mani/pedi, but overall, I was completely happy with the quality for number 4 and I had no drying time (one of the best things about Gel polish!). Loved Rosalinda’s work, so make sure to ask for her if you head to the Tips & Toes Barsha branch! PS This gel polish is harder to remove than the typical Gelish, so make sure you’re patient on your next appointment when you have to remove the polish. A mani/pedi costs AED220

Visit a Hair Spa… & get a Intensive Wheat hair treatment at Vivandi Hair Spa

I didn’t know a hair spa existed in the UAE till this month… and of course I had to visit it and experience it for myself. Based in Bur Dubai, the spa is spacious and incredibly professional. As soon as I was arrived, I was greeted by the lovely team before being shown into my room (I loved the fact that they had private rooms with showers, and a hairdresser chair with magazines – all in the comfort of your privacy!) After the ombre and regular travels, my ends have been getting really dry so I booked in to try the Wheat treatment at the spa – lasts a month, the treatment nourishes and hydrates the hair (really helps if your hair is getting affected by Dubai’s waters too!). The treatment commences with the hair made wet before the wheat treatment (brought in from hair experts in the UK) was applied in small chunks all over except the roots, the hair was tied up and held through with a cling wrap. I was then put under the the steamer for 15 minutes in order for the wheat to infuse into my hair cuticles. This was then followed by a wash using a medical shampoo and conditioner before having my hair dried & I was good to go! My hair felt soft, light, hydrated, nourished and smelt squeaky clean.

Each treatment costs AED300

Hair Tutorial: How to get BIG hair.

DSCF5178Haireid1 haireid2 haireid3 haireid4It’s no secret that I love big hair! So this month I decided to round up my favorite hair tools and products that I use to achieve dramatic volume at home, here’s how I get the look…

I’m wearing an MSGM dress from S*uce boutique

Alterna Bamboo cleanse extend dry shampoo

Bumble and bumble BB spray de mode hairspray

Kerastase Densifique mousse

What you will need to complete the look:

Kerastase Densifique Mousse

Heat Protection Spray

Bumble and Bumble BB Spray de mode Hairspray

Alterna Bamboo cleanse extend Dry Shampoo

Bobby Pins

Sectioning Clips

Evolution Round Brush

Tail Comb

eionic Hairdryer

eCURLER Medium-Barrel Curling Tong

Step 1: Product Preparation

I begin by rough-drying my hair to 80% with my eionic hairdryer before working some volumizing mousse into my damp hair. For even distribution I use my comb to apply the product.

Step 2: Backwards Blow-dry

I give the mousse some time to absorb before taking my EIDEAL Evolution Brush and blow-drying my fringe section backwards, I love this brush as the ionized bristles really grip the hair and reduce static at the same time! Remember, it’s important to blow-dry the fringe first as this gives you more control over where the parting falls.

Tip: Slowly rotate the brush in a circular motion to tease the hair in the right direction.

Step 3: Voluptuous Volume

Now my fringe is dry, I use the end of my Tail Comb to create two separate sections, dividing the crown and the bottom. I use the technique I described in my Basic Blow-dry Tutorial to dry the bottom section, rotating my Evolution Brush to create volume as I dry. Now it’s time to dry the crown section. I really want to create some extra volume and push my hair backwards here, so I wrap my hair around the brush and push it upwards (see photo 3) to create some extra lift at the root.

Step 4: Creating Texture

Waves are the perfect way to add extra bounce, so once my hair has cooled I use my go to tool, the eCURLER to create some texture. Remember, when curling, always curl away from your face! I’ve chosen to use my medium barrel tong as I want my curls to look big and bouncy! I want to create a gritty texture to modernize the look so I wait for my hair to cool before working some dry shampoo into my roots. I wait 5 minutes for the dry shampoo to absorb before applying a misting of medium-hold hairspray to lock my curls in place.

Step 5: Teasing into Place

This style is all about the volume so, for that extra va-va-voom I use my tail comb to tease the under sections of my hair before smoothing over the top.  You might find that your hair naturally falls into your everyday parting so feel free to use some carefully placed bobby pins to keep your hair back. I want to create a sultry lift in the front section so I also tease the top before smoothing it over. Now it’s time for one final hairspray fix all over and you’re good to go!

Beauty Notes: Summer Glow

SummerGlowBronzer: Jane Iredale Moonglow Golden bronzer

Jane Iredale have really been impressing me at the moment. Didn’t expect I’d like a skincare make up range as much as this one. This product has the perfect combination of a bronzer and illuminator – 4 different shades, 2 bronzed and 2 illuminating shades. If used properly with the bronzer and illuminating quads, you’ll get the most beautiful and flattering sun kissed glow.

Illuminating Cream: NARS Illuminator in Hot Sand

Now that we have NARS in Dubai… A summer glow beauty notes feature is incomplete without a NARS product. This liquid champagne-peach illuminating shade is a gorgeous dewy highlighter that works well with a no-make up look – just a subtle tan, eyeliner, highlighter on the cheekbones, nose and cupid’s bow with a finish touch of lip balm – you’re good to go!

Blush: MAC Alluring Aquatics Extra dimension blush in Seduced by Sea

I love a product with good packaging, so I must say I was so excited to get my hands on some products from the MAC Alluring Aquatics collection – which was a fresh/summery metallic turquoise packaging. Even though the Extra Dimension blush (a powder and cream in one) doesn’t have as good as a pigment as the other MAC blushes, I fell in love with this one as a colour in between a bronzer & blush with a touch of crystallised shimmer. The dewy finish makes it a perfect Summer essential.

Shimmer pot: Topshop Glow

This has got to be one of the best illuminators I’ve used – generally, really loving Topshop’s beauty range. High in pigment, and very little product goes a long way. When applied on the cheekbones, it really sculpts the face and you get an ultra radiant finish. I love it in ‘Polished’

Multitasker: Chanel Les 4 Ombres in 234 Poise

This is an eyeshadow, which I’ve been using as a highlighter. If you like a light shimmery eye, this is also a great eyeshadow palette. This limited edition quad has gorgeous colours like a shimmery beige, ivory, soft plum and lilac. I like using shadows as highlighters because of their pigments so this is definitely a great multi tasking beauty buy.

Stretch Marks – Why we get them, the different kinds of marks & how to get rid of them.

$

Rebeccatreston2Stretch marks are not things we can get a quick fix for before our Summer vacation or a day at the beach. This month, I asked the lady I trust for all things skin – Rebecca Treston @ Euromed Clinic:

Why do we get Stretch marks at really young ages and how can we get rid of them? There are the white/silvery ones and the purple ones? Do any of the beauty products work? Can we get rid of them for good?

Stretch marks tend to appear when a person grows or gains weight over a short space of time, causing the skin to be pulled or stretched. Stretch marks are also recognised as the battle scars of pregnancy, with between 75% and 90% of women developing them particularly in the second and last trimester, and being left with them post-partum.  Most women have some degree of stretch mark scarring, which tends to show up on the breasts, thighs, hips, and butt – and while they’re more common in females, they can also occur in men.

Skin is usually fairly elastic, thanks to its middle layer called the dermis which has plentiful supplies of collagen and therefore allows it to retain its shape. But when constantly stretched, the skin eventually will not be able to bounce back and so the dermis breaks down, leaving stretch marks behind. At first, stretch marks may show up as reddish or purplish lines that may appear indented and have a different texture from the surrounding skin, but thankfully over time, stretch marks often turn lighter, adopting a glossy silvery-whitish appearance and in some cases, they can almost disappear.

If however, you are self-conscious about your stretch marks, there are some measures that you can take to minimise their appearance. Although stretch marks themselves are less likely to tan than you’re the rest of your skin, sunless self-tanners can help cover up stretch marks. Another good option is to buy a body makeup matched to the tone of your skin that can make stretch marks all but invisible.

While many creams and other skin products on the market claim to get rid of stretch marks (or prevent them during pregnancy), the truth is that although they are costly, most of them do not work.  Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to make stretch marks disappear without the help of a dermatologist or an aesthetics expert.  A reputable aesthetics clinic will offer a variety of treatments such as microdermabrasion and laser treatments that will reduce the appearance of stretch marks, but the degree of success with any treatment will depend on your age, your skin tone, and even your diet.  To ensure the best possible results it is recommended that stretch marks are treated around six months after appearing as once the stretch marks become a silvery colour these are much harder to treat, although still possible with the latest innovative treatments.

The Process: A shower on luxe, yet minimal comfortable shower chairs followed by getting my hair blow dried followed by curled with a curling wand. The hair was then clipped to hold it together before letting them loose – a great tactic so the hair doesn’t loosen and drop after a few hours.

Experience: Quite a long experience, but it was still perfect on day two – definitely worth it. Thank god for magazines like Harper’s Bazaar Australia at the salon…

Results: Retro and curls that lasted!

Recommended stylist: Rana

Products used: Schwarzkopf – they also sell Bumble and Bumble at their retail corner.

Price: AED 170

What? Wash & blow-dry at Dollhouse Salon

Where? Dubai Ladies Club on Beach road

The Process: Got a wash on their minimal style seats with a lovely massage, comfortable enough followed by a blow-dry and got the hair curled with tongs.

Experience: It felt a little stressy as my stylist had a back to back schedule so I felt like it was rushed but I was happy with my final result. They have wifi, which is a plus!

Results: Perfect loose curls, and I even had a net applied to my hair as I needed it for the day after, never knew they existed!

Recommended stylist: Maya

What? Wash and blow dry at De La Mer Day Spa

Where? De La Mer Day Spa on Beach Road, Dubai.

The Process: Got a hair wash, felt like my hair was over brushed, blow dried, then curled with tongs.

Experience: Great, except for the fact that my hair stylist wanted to criticise my Ombre… I also really liked the reminder emails!

Results: I was worried my hair wouldn’t last as it wasn’t hard curls but lasted a good two days!

Recommended stylist: Rizlan

Products used: They most use L’Oreal and Alterna but they have a few other products from Matrix and Moroccan Oil.

What? Nstyle Salon

Where? They have several branches across town but I visited the Mall of Emirates one.

The Process: After a hair wash, my hair was blow dried and curled by strand.

Experience: The salon looks like a normal Arabic hair salon, nothing fancy. The magazines were local rather than international.

Results: My hair was tightly curled, but after an hour turned into beautiful loose curls, which lasted me a good two days.

maseratighibliCar: Maserati Ghibli

Less than a month ago, I gave up my mini cooper for a week of driving a beautiful blue 2014 Maserati Ghibli. The brand is by the same company as Ferrari (which my parents are loyal fans of) and the model was a great way to enter the sports car market – it’s the entry level of Maserati and is possibly their most popular amongst women. There were several things I loved in this luxurious car that I thought I would highlight, but before I do – I will mention that this beauty had gorgeous red interiors – the perfect contrast to the blue exteriors.

+

-Keyless entry (a lot of cars are starting to have this feature, which I love)

-It generally was such an easy car to drive, always a plus for the ladies.

-The luxe, sports feel of the car

-Spacious, yet compact (The Quattroporte is too long for my liking, I prefer the Ghibli!)

-Maserati Stability Program: For those of you who aren’t aware of this – The MSP ‘uses a wide array of sensors to detect any need to intervene on the driver’s behalf’ whether it is to stop the wheel locking up when braking, distributing braking force, stopping the wheel from spinning in low-grip situations, uses a variety of sensors to recognise energy braking situations and increase the pressure in the braking circuit. I loved the fact that the wheel was generally smooth, but when the speed increased, it got more stiff for safety.

-Strong sensors

-High music base

-Digital screen to monitor the radio, navigator, phone, and climate. High tech program to control everything on the screen.

-Men would probably appreciate this more – the sport mode for the sound and drive.

Not much to complain about except for the gear being slightly complicated to shift through, and the rearview visibility wasn’t the best.

Bounce 01 Bounce 22

Weekend plan: Bounce

If you follow me on instagram, you would’ve seen that I was recently at Bounce (a little too often) – a warehouse of trampolines! When I heard they were opening up a few months ago, I was ecstatic. Growing up, I used to go to Safa Park and jump on their trampolines.  When I’m in Chicago (my hometown), I go to trampolining centres to jump and I must say, Bounce is on another level. Situated in Al Quoz, the space is large and has several sections from their free jumps, basketball hoops section, dodge ball field to their air bag jumps and walking wall. Great music, fab energy, they also have a cafe upstairs to keep you hydrated and your sugar (energy) levels up! You also get to keep their cool colourful grippy striped socks as a souvenir (and if you’re a Barre fitness addict, these are perfect for your barre class!) Perfect for the adults at heart, and of course the mommies & daddies for a family day out with the kids.

A new Indian restaurant promoting healthy Indian food opened up closely to where I live in Jumeirah and decided to give to a try for a family iftar at home. I was in love with their packaging – quite modern for traditional Indian food. We ordered a mix of dishes from Naan, Biryani (they have choices from Lamb to prawn), Butter Chicken and desserts such as Gulab Jamun and Rasmalai – We even got adorable mini jars of Mango chutney! They offer Gluten free, cholesterol free and vegetarian options of your favourite traditional dishes – but don’t be fooled… you can still find the traditional non-healthy dishes.

Clarisonic-Aria-Pink

Beauty: Clarisonic Aria

I’m all for cleansing gadgets if they make a difference. When I travel, I carry my Luna but when I’m back home – I love my Clarisonic. I got my hands on a pink Clarisonic Aria – Advanced sonic cleansing that is incredibly easy to charge and all you need is some cleanser and the clarisonic cleans your face till it’s squeaky clean (it really revolutionised the use of a cleanser). The sonic cleansing waves deep cleanse the skin and the pores in a delicate form allowing serums and products to absorb better – so you sleep with clean skin, and feel the full effect of the skincare products. A must buy.

Product shot Active care Jojoba hi res

Hair: Philips ActiveCare Jojoba Straightener

Two years ago, I gave up over styling my hair, and now that I’ve got Ombre colour in my hair – the last thing I want is to damage my hair even more. I’ve recently started using Philips ActiveCare’s Jojoba straightener, which I’m really enjoying. It does the job, but it also damages less. The ceramic plates are infused with Jojoba Oil (an oil treatment at home, you need heat for it to seep through the hair!), the ionic care adds a great finishing shine. Highly recommend this if you’re looking for your next straightener or styling tool to buy. The straightener costs AED299 and is available at all major hypermarkets and electronic retail stores.
